Welcome to the FTS Academy!
There’s nothing better than being able to streamline your family’s schedule. First Time Sports can help you with that by partnering with schools across the PHX Valley.
With our coaches, your young child will have fun, develop important athletic skills, and play and practice with friends in an environment they are already comfortable in and familiar with – school! First Time Sports takes the worries and inconvenience of how and when to introduce your child to sports out of the equation. The best time is now and the best place is school!
Registration is open! Sign up below to secure your child’s spot for the year.
BENEFITS
No More Back & Forth
No need to schedule time to drive to practice. First Time Sports is hosted by your local school so the coaches go where the kids already are, rather than asking parents to add one more activity into their already busy schedules.
School Year Based Program
Our 9-month program overlaps the traditional school schedule and provides rolling enrollment, so kids can start any time they feel ready. Classes run 1 hour a week.
Multiple Sports
Six different intramural sports are available, and coaches work directly with school staff to ensure consistency and cooperation.
Building Social Skills
Children get to learn and practice with kids they are already familiar with from school, adding more opportunities to spend time with their friends and classmates.
No Gear Required
A t-shirt, water bottle, and team photos are included with each session. Just need tennis shoes in class.
Learning the Language
Your little athlete will learn both the fundamentals of sports, but also the common language of sports, including a weekly vocabulary word that gets reinforced in the school classroom. Don’t forget to ask your child what the ‘Word of the Week’ is!
Available Sports
Soccer
We will be introducing your child to the basics of the game, such as running, kicking, and simple ball control exercises. Through soccer, kids will learn essential motor skills, teamwork, and the importance of following instructions, fostering a strong foundation for their future athletic pursuits and overall development.
Basketball
Basketball provides a great platform for your child’s physical and social development. In introductory basketball programs, children will learn fundamental skills like dribbling, shooting, and passing in a fun and supportive environment. Engaging in basketball at a young age helps improve hand-eye coordination, balance, and agility, while also fostering teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship. As kids practice and play together, they will build confidence, make friends, and lay the groundwork for a lifelong love of sports and healthy competition.
T-ball
T-ball is an excellent introductory sport focusing on the fundamentals of baseball and softball in a fun and safe environment. Your child will learn essential skills such as hand-eye coordination, batting, and fielding through simplified gameplay and soft balls placed on a tee. T-ball helps build their confidence, social interaction, and understanding of teamwork as they begin to develop a love for the sport and lay the groundwork for future athletic endeavors.
Golf & Mini Putting
In junior golf programs, kids will be introduced to the fundamentals of the game, including proper grip, stance, and swing techniques. Golf teaches patience, concentration, and perseverance as children work on improving their shots and navigating the course. Beyond the physical aspects, golf instills valuable life lessons such as honesty, integrity, and respect for others and the environment. Starting golf at a young age sets the stage for a lifelong appreciation of this challenging and rewarding sport, fostering a love for the outdoors and a sense of camaraderie with fellow golfers.
Gymnastics
Gymnastics offers a wide range of physical and cognitive benefits. In gymnastics classes, kids will explore various movements, balance exercises, and basic tumbling skills, enhancing their flexibility, strength, and coordination. This sport not only promotes body awareness and motor skills but also encourages discipline, focus, and perseverance. As children engage in playful routines and structured activities, they will gain confidence, self-esteem, and social skills, setting the stage for a lifelong appreciation of fitness and physical activity.
Football
Football can be an exciting and rewarding sport for young children. In junior football programs, kids will be introduced to the fundamentals of the game, such as catching, throwing, and running with the ball. Playing football helps develop coordination, strength, and endurance while promoting teamwork and camaraderie among young athletes. Additionally, children learn important values like discipline, sportsmanship, and resilience as they participate in drills and simple game scenarios. Engaging in football at a young age can spark a lifelong passion for the sport and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle.
